One Year To Live

Anthony Burgess war 40 when he learned that he had only one year to live. He had a brain tumor that would kill him within a year. He knows he had a battle on his hands. He was completely broke at the time, and he didn’t have anything to leave behind for his wife, Lynne, soon to be a window.

Burgess had never been a professional novelist in the past, but he always knew the potential was inside him to be a writer. So, for the sole purpose of leaving royalties behind for his wife, he put a piece of paper into a typewriter and began writing. He had no certainty that he would even be published, but he couldn’t think of anything else to do. What is Time Management?

“It was January of 1960,” he said, “and according to the prognosis, I had a winter and spring and summer to live through, and would die with the fall of the leaf.”In that time Burgess wrote energetically, finishing five and a half novels before the year wade through (very nearly the entire lifetime output of E.M. Forster, and almost twice that of J. D. Salinger. One year to live But Burgess did not die. His cancer had gone into remission and then disappeared altogether. In his long and full life as a novelist ( he is best known for A Clockwork Orange), he wrote more than 70 books, but without the death sentence from cancer, he may not have written at all. Many of us are like Anthony Burgess, hiding greatness inside, waiting for some external emergency to bring it out. Ask yourself what you’d do if you had Anthony Burgess’s original predicament. ” If I had just a year to live, how would I live differently? What exactly would I do?”

Every day, take the time to ask yourself the question “is this the best use of my time and energy?” Time management is life management so guard your time with great care.

The Power of Focus

The Power of Focus

Most of us never really focus because we don’t know the power of focus. We constantly feel a kind of irritating psychic chaos because we keep trying to think of too many things at once. There’s always too much up there on the screen. There was an interesting motivational talk on this subject given by former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson to his football player: the power of focus ” I told them that if I laid a two-by-four plank across the room, everybody there would walk across it and not fall, because our focus would be that we were going to walk that two-by-four. But if I put that same two-by-four plank 10 stories high between two buildings only a few would make it because the focus would be on failing. Focus is everything. The team that is more focused today is the team that will win this game.”
Johnson told his team not to be distracted by the crowd, the media, or the possibility of losing, but to focus on each play of the game itself just as if it were a good practice session. The Cowboys won the game by 52-17.

2016 Success Tip

“Sleepless “This is one of the best investments you can make to make your life more productive and rewarding. Most people do not need more than 6 hours to maintain an excellent state of health. Try getting up one hour earlier for 21 days and it will develop into a powerful habit. Remember, it is the quality, not the quantity of sleep that is important. And just imagine having an extra 30 hours a month to spend on the things that are important to you.”

Personal Development

Read “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”  by Stephen Covey. It contains a wealth of wisdom and powerful insights into further developing your character and enhancing your personal relationships. Set aside one hour every morning for personal development matters. Meditate, visualize your day, read inspirational texts to set the tone of your day, listen to motivational tapes or read great literature. Take this quiet period to vitalize and energize your spirit for the productive day ahead. Watch the sun rise once a week or be with nature. Starting the day off well is a powerful strategy for self-renewal and personal effectiveness.

2016 Time to Succeed

Plan your day before it unfolds. Do it in the morning or even better, the night before you sleep. The plan gives you a good overview of how the day will pan out. That way, you don’t get caught off guard. Your job for the day is to stick to the plan as best as possible.

Ask Yourself Where am I going?

In the professional world, I’ve seen the gamut of corporate executives succeed or fail based on the clearness of their vision. Not clear on your goal, well if you’re a hiker climbing Everest that could be the difference between life or death, summit success or falling off the side of the cliff. Even worse not clear on the destination, you’ll walk the wrong path, and not even know the right path may be within reach.During your process you have to be very specific and clear on what you want to achieve. If you wish to write a book, how many pages is it? How many words per day or pages a day do you need to write? What’s your eventual goal? You need to have a path for your success. You need to have a beginning, a middle, and an end.A vision turns into a tangible goal, which turns into the set of tasks to become your desired outcome. Without the destination clearly in mind, you’ll wander, wishing for your personal GPS.

Enjoy Your Life At Every Moment

Once a fisherman was sitting near the seashore, under the shadow of a tree smoking his beedi. Suddenly a rich businessman passing by approached him and enquired as to why he was sitting under a tree smoking and not working. To this, the poor fisherman replied that he had caught enough fishes for the day.
Hearing this, the rich man got angry and said: Why don’t you catch more fishes instead of sitting in shadow wasting your time?
The fisherman asked: What would I do by catching more fishes?
Businessman: You could catch more fishes, sell them and earn more money, and buy a bigger boat.
Fisherman: What would I do then?
Businessman: You could go fishing in deep waters and catch even more fishes and earn even more money.
Fisherman: What would I do then?
Businessman: You could buy many boats and employ many people to work for you and earn even more money.
Fisherman: What would I do then?
Businessman: You could become a rich businessman like me.
Fisherman: What would I do then?
Businessman: You could then enjoy your life peacefully.
Fisherman: Isn’t that what I am doing now?
Moral – You don’t need to wait for tomorrow to be happy and enjoy your life. You don’t even need to be richer, more powerful to enjoy life. LIFE is at this moment, enjoy it fully.
